Jackson & Pollock Body Fat (7 sites)

Body fat percentage calculation using 7 skinfold measurements

About this method

Jackson-Pollock 7-site is accurate for young, moderately active individuals. For well-trained athletes it tends to underestimate body fat by 1-2 percent due to denser musculature. For best accuracy calculate both this method and Durnin-Womersley (4-site) — the average of both is more reliable than either alone. Athletes with 5+ years of training should also try the Body Fat (9-Site) which is specifically designed for trained individuals.

How to measure skinfolds:

  • Use calipers to measure skinfold thickness
  • Measure on the right side of the body
  • Grasp only skin and subcutaneous fat
  • Take 2-3 measurements and use the average value
  • If the sum of all skinfolds exceeds 385mm, use the 4-site Durnin-Womersley method
  • Most accurate when sum does not exceed 200mm for men and 220mm for women
